I have spent 15 years teaching math Algebra through Calculus 2. I also spent several years as the head of mathematics education for my school district. I started and continue to run an AP Calculus study group for students preparing for both the AB and BC AP Calculus exam. I have worked as a mathematics assessment specialist and have written and delivered trainings on how to write statistically valid assessment items for educators all over the country.
I love a classroom where students are very carefully led to learn how and why mathematics works. Once my new principal walked in and although he had seen me leading discussions before, was taken aback by how much louder my room was. I told him to walk around and listen to the actual conversations and he would find a great deal of learning was taking place. Students were defending their conclusions to their peers who were more than happy to provide constructive feedback or enthusiastic agreement.
