I have recently returned to the classroom after a 5-year sabbatical. I am currently teaching Business English, and Principles of Arts & A/V Technology. Previously, I have taught journalism, photojournalism and advised a student newspaper/newsmagazine, online newspaper, and yearbook.
I believe that it's important to first build strong relationships with your students through trust and mutual respect. Students work harder for teachers they trust and feel safe around. I am a fairly laid-back teacher and believe in student-centered, individualized learning whenever possible. I love using real-world examples and teaching 21st-century skills as part of my lessons. I believe that digital media literacy, as well as news media literacy, are both undervalued skills that desperately need to be taught in all classrooms.
