In the past I have had the joys of teaching 9th grade English and Oral Communications as well as 10th grade English and Advanced English. I have also designed curriculum for Written and Oral Communications for an alternative school program for students ranging from 9th-12th grades, worked with after school MCA Reading Test Prep tutoring, and created curriculum to teach my 9th and 10th grade Reading class. Currently, I am blessed to be teaching 9th and Accelerated 9th grade English where I cover a variety of reading and writing strategies, grammar lessons, and novel studies. I love the quirkiness of the teenage mind!
Although many of my lessons are guided through media presentations, the activities included in those presentations are meant to target a variety of learning styles. I strive to encourage higher thinking questioning skills and creative writing to guide the understanding of literature. I also try to build in literacy strategies such as close reading and marking the text to help build a better understanding of complex texts. I find the use of both visual and auditory aids in my class important and enjoy the use of humor in my lessons to capture the attention of my young audience. I try to make it an effort to include collaborative learning opportunities and technology integration.

I am a new mother to a beautiful son. I believe in the importance of finding a balance between family and work. In order to stay true to this, I strive to create lessons and resources that will hold strong over time.
