When I am in the classroom, it has been effective to combine multiple teaching styles such as inquiry based learning, project based learning, student centered approach in which the foundation is differentiation. Direct instruction is used when applicable but does not always produce desired results.
I have also been awarded the privilege to speak at Kean University's Mental Health Conference back in 2015. The basis of my presentation was understanding challenging behaviors in the classroom and appropriate interventions that follow the educational implications of the behaviors. In March 2016 I had the opportunity to cultivate a Black Hair & Identity Appreciation Expo for urban minority youth in the high school setting. This expo entailed a multitude of informative workshops led by established black professionals. The purpose was to expand appreciation for black culture beyond the month of February with the use of experiential workshops and lecture. I too spoke at this conference. In November 2016 I spoke as a guest panelist for the annual New Jersey Multicultural Counseling Association conference . The theme of this panel is "Dealing and healing from experiences of oppression, discrimination, and privilege in our personal and professional lives". This conference will be held at Mercer County College in Trenton, NJ.
