I've been teaching secondary science in the Sunshine State (Florida) since 2009. Before that, I spent 2 years teaching with the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa. And prior to that, what seems life a lifetime ago, I was a design engineer for a major medical device company. Through it all I've relied on my creativity, passion, and ability to ignite curiosity. My goal is to inspire girls and low SES students to follow the path to become engineers.
Everything I've posted here I've used in my classroom. I really like the way it has worked for me, and I hope you'll find value in the pieces as well. While I love to have a BIG PICTURE plan for the school year, I fly by the seat of my pants on a moment to moment basis, choosing from a handful of activities, strategies, and formats for each topic in each class period. The message is the same, but the delivery is often different. When I get bored, I know the kids are barely breathing, so I switch things up often; we move, we color, we eat our lab materials, its great! Interactive Notebooks, Movement & Play, Edible Labs, Hands-On Activities, Integrated Technology at the secondary level.
