Preparatory Common Core Step by Step Music Composition

This project is meant to be used in the 2nd or 3rd grade in preparation for the main Common Core Step by Step Music Composition Project. A simplified approach uses only quarter note, quarter rest, and two eighth notes as rhythms. One and two syllable words are used to match rhythms. Students practice matching words to rhythms and use a given poem to add rhythms. Finally students use xylophones to add pitches G and E (So Mi) to their composition, practice playing it and perform it for the class.
