Rubrics have been essential for my resource program this year. Rubrics are efficient tools to assess authentic student learning and growth towards IEP goals. Instead of measuring a skill as correct/incorrect or simply generating a percentage score, rubrics allow us to assess holistically and offer a chance to incorporate quantitative and qualitative data.

Word Problem rubrics and template for K-2
I have created a rubric for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade word "application" problems within the Eureka math curriculum. I have also created a template for students to use the Read, Draw, Write, protocol when solving these problems. Inside the rubric for grades 1st and 2nd, there are three criteria: Draw, Write, and answer statement. For Kindergarten we only used Draw and Answer statement. Enjoy!

Use the Problem Solving Rubric to monitor student progress when solving word problems. The rubric is based on the strategy; Understand Plan Solve Check (UPS, check).
