I am an Ontario Certified Teacher who has been teaching for 10 years. I have taught grade 2 to 5, but have most of my experience in grade 3 and 4. I have taught split grades such as grade 2/3 and grade 3/4.
My teaching really begins with a blank canvas. I let the students guide the learning while I facilitate it. With a personal passion in social justice, I incorporate current events and take on a social justice lens in my teacher approach. Students respond well when they can relate to the learning and challenge the real-world dynamics. Issues such as poverty, environmental concerns and appreciating global cultures are just a few things I bring into the classroom. I also enjoy incorporating technology into the class, whether it be creating videos using a green screen or having students create blogs. Having taught split grades, I have gained the experience to teach using an integrated cross-curricular approach. I enjoy creating assignments where students can apply multiple strands of learning and be creative in their approach.
