I am currently in my 13th year as a Spanish teacher. My experience spans many grades and curriculum. I have taught Spanish to elementary students while living in Vienna, Austria. Returned to the US to teach Spanish Language Arts to native high school speakers as well as AP Spanish Language and Culture and AP Spanish Literature. Additionally, I spent two years teaching the IB curriculum. Presently, I am in my second year teaching Spanish to middle school students in the heart of the Rocky Mountains.
I am 100% a Comprehensible Input teacher and I use Total Physical Response and Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling to round out my program. I teach bell to bell in Spanish and strive to make it entirely comprehensible for my students through visuals, stories, actions and engaging content.
Last four years of teaching AP, my students had a 100% success rate with an average of 4.5.
BA in French and International Studies from Seattle Pacific University. MS in Environmental Conservation from Colorado State University. (Wrote master's thesis in Spanish focusing on Participatory Development in Guatemala).
I have spent a lifetime learning languages: French, Spanish and German and of course, my native language of English. Through the course of learning multiple languages, I find we can be far more effective in our language instruction in the US and start accessing language today.
