I have taught 4th grade in a public school district for 20+ years. My district is a high poverty district with a diverse population. Throughout my years, I have worked 10 years teaching inclusion with a special education co-teacher's support. I have taught students at all levels, from those who are gifted, to those who have many learning and behavioral challenges. I have experience working with ENL students, children with ADHD, learning disabilities, dyslexia, oppositional defiant disorder, and many other individuals with challenges.
I firmly believe in making students independent thinkers. Students must be motivated and excited to learn the content. It must touch their hearts and be meaningful to them. Students must achieve success first with concepts, then be challenged to apply knowledge to new and often difficult situations. This challenge allows them to feel true pride in their success.
