TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have passionately taught music education kindergarten through high school for over 27 years! With a background in band, my career led me to elementary music education (general music, recorder, non-pitched percussion and Orff instruments, choral), where I now shape student’s confidence in learning music and prepare them for whichever musical path may lie ahead. I am a Cooperating Teacher for the University of Rhode Island, where I encourage future teachers to reflect on the students' needs, link their objectives to the standards, and lesson plan to develop students' depth of knowledge. I am an adjunct professor for a graduate level summer course on Perception, Assessment and Evaluation at Rhode Island College. There are some wonderful recourses through NAfME and GIA publications to help guide the assessment and knowledge about our students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe all children can learn to hear, read, perform, and speak literate about music! I am interested in finding efficient ways to link music instruction to the classroom, so children can discover the connections. I try to create opportunities for students to explore and perform, create, and respond to music inside and outside of the classroom. I use a multi-modal approach and am a strong advocate for scaffolding learning and assessments so students can apply knowledge to gain a deeper understanding.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have received many grants local and non-profit organizations to bring artists into the schools, obtain instruments and equipment, and to bring students to arts venues for performance field trips.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.A. in Music, B.S. in Education, M.M. from the University of Connecticut; National Board Certified Teacher in Early and Middle Childhood Music.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

The students, parents, and teachers of my district have challenged me throughout my career to set the bar high for all students. I am thrilled to start this TpT Sellers journey and share my ideas with you!
