This is a great hands on project for the class that likes to keep active. The students will be given a bag of M&M's and make some predictions. Then data will be collected. Students will then find MEAN, MEDIAN, MODE, THE LOWER QUARTILE, THE UPPER QUARTILE, RANGE, INTERQUARTILE RANGE. Then the students will construct a box and whisker plot with the data. Solving Systems of Equation using a TI-83/84 & Gauss-Jordan Elimination
This handout explains how to use the reduced row echelon form (RREF) function in the TI-83/84 to solve system of equations problems. It also includes an explanation of the Gauss-Jordan Elimination Method upon which the function is based. If a student can work through the entire lab on his or her own, that student should have no problems with the unit test. Teach your students how to graph functions without a calculator. Using a basic y=mx+b format, give some x values in a table, have the students calculate the y value, convert to order pairs (O.P.).
