Persuasive Writing with the Hamburger Model
This is a lesson for persuasive writing that uses William & Mary's Hamburger Model. I took Lesson 10 from the Beyond Words unit and created it into an interactive SmartBoard lesson for students. Students will move objects, erase to reveal, underline sentences, and learn how this powerful graphic organizer can help them write powerful persuasive pieces!

Personal Narrative
Writing Unit (about 2-3 weeks)
Grades 2,3,4 but can be adapted for older or younger grades
EACH LESSON INCLUDES A LEARNING OBJECTIVE!
This Unit incorporates the use of literature as inspiration for writing our personal narrative. It's created for a 2nd or 3rd grade Personal Narrative writing Unit.
Each day requires:
*reading a book
*teacher models a graphic organizer
*students complete their own organizer
*short paragraphs written for each organizer

Habitats Research Organizer
This is a 6 page organizer for students to use as they research a habitat of their choice. It is great for younger grades (1st-3rd). I created it as a smartboard to use as a model and then printed the pages directly from there. This project can be topped off with students creating a biome at home to then bring in and share with the class. Students loved it and did a great job with it!

A SmartBoard Lesson that helps students create main ideas that are precise and not so broad. It teaches them to see the difference between a good idea that can have specific details as opposed a broad idea that is hard to create specific details for.

Shape Based Compare and Contrast Graphic Organizer SmartBoard Template
This SmartBoard Template supports student use of my shape based compare and contrast graphic organizer. The strategy works well for students who can't use a typical Venn Diagram. The graphic organizer encourages the use of transition words when contrasting topics. I have had students use this format when using text based information and/or for general comparisons.
