Fraction Recipe Book Project
This is an activity I used to reinforce fraction operations in my 6th grade math class. The students created a class recipe book by each bringing in three of their favorite recipes. They had to include a list of ingredients, as well as instructions for doubling, tripling, or halving the recipe. 8.NS.1 Converting Repeating Decimals to Fractions: Performance Assessment
Determine how close to proficiency your students are with Common Core standard 8.NS.1. These two problems will challenge your students to break a decimal apart into known fractions. The scoring rubric is on the assessment itself so students know exactly what you are looking for. The rubric should be introduced prior to the assessment as students are practicing the skill so they know the depth they are expected to be reaching and to challenge them to go further than simply finding an answer.
