My favorite thing about using foldable note-taking guides is the PRIDE students take in completing them. There's something different about a tactile resource versus an expected and typical "worksheet" for taking notes. This foldable will help make the process of learning how to simplify expressions using the correct Order of Operations easier for students to digest! Since PEMDAS often breeds misconceptions (such as, that multiplication is performed BEFORE division... not true!) many have modified

I created these order of operations bookmarks to help my 5th grade ELs remember the correct order that they need to use in order to solve complex math problems. I included symbols of each operation to help make the connection between the math vocabulary and what it means. Please feel free to use this as a teaching tool, as a bookmark to hand-out to your students and/or to add into your Smartboard lessons.

Unit 4: Solving Quadratics, 4.2 Solve by square root method. (see 4.1 notes for the previous lesson on factor / graphing). Students use these scaffolded notes / graphic organizers to solve quadratic equations in vertex form by square rooting or the square root method. This is not completing the square. google doc is editable. KEY included in title and at the bottom of the doc. Used in HS math 2.

Unit 2: 2.4 variables on both sides. Used in Math 1 HS classroom. Students solve equations with the variable on both sides by identifying the difference between constant terms and a variable term from Unit 1. Students do walk through problems that have the steps written out. 100 percent editable to your liking on google doc. KEY IS INCLUDED linked in the title TWICE.
