Flame Test - Electrons, LightThis is a much easier way to do the flame test lab experiment. Usually most experiments have you use a nichrome wire and acid cleaning each time a new test is to be completed. With my method, it will take you only half as much time to complete the lab. This lab includes background information that discusses the usages of the flame test, how electrons emit colored light, and explains the difference between the ground state and excited state of an atom.Included:•Bac

Want your students to study and launch water bottle rockets but need guidance? Well, I am here to help. The PowerPoint in this bundle will take your students through key vocabulary such as drag, ballast, thrust and discuss how Newton’s Three Laws affect the launch of a rocket. Day 1, students will work through the PowerPoint individually and design a water bottle rocket. Students will then join with a partner who also has a plan and merge their ideas into one design plan that they will build.

I love the Flinn Scientific safety contract but it is too all encompassing and the test is more common sense than anything else. I want to know that I’ve covered my bases in the event of a lab accident and that I won’t be found liable for injuries sustained by a student. This safety bundle gives you everything you need to manage your chemistry lab all year long. There's a lot in this bundle! Look for my bundle of safety bundles for chemistry and physics and save $3. • 6 pages of teacher ins

Earth Layers Model: Decoding Compositional and Mechanical/Structural layers

Students will complete a colored model of earths layers that will clarify the main differences of compositional and mechanical layers both visually as well as conceptually. They will also be able to identify trends of temperature, gravity, pressure, and density. This is a great activity that will allow students to better comprehend the dynamics of plate tectonics. This could also serve as a earth science practical type of assessment.

This short lab (35-45 min) has students collect data on a golf ball rolling across a surface and then data on it hitting a variety of rolling masses. They determine the average velocity of a golf ball down a gentle ramp and then determine the distance, time, and average velocity of a golf ball, marble, ping pong ball, and bouncy ball after the collision. This is a good activity with simple math. This is probably not appropriate for honors level. I have another momentum inquiry written at tha

Students measure the average speed of a golf ball rolling down a gentle incline and across a table and calculate the momentum. They then allow the golf ball to hit a second stationary golf ball at the bottom of the ramp and measure the average velocity of each of the balls, then calculate the total momentum after the collision. A colleague had a similar activity that I “stole” this idea from. It’s such a great way to have students “play” with free-body diagrams. I tell students to do their best and try it on their own first, then we come together as a class and discuss our results. Every time they are able to get the correct answers without any “lecture” from me! That’s VERY teacher friendly!
