How I Teach Trigonometry Ratios Part 1
This is a 25 page Smartboard file explaining how to establish the ratios needed to do basic trigonometry. The lesson starts out giving definitions for hypotenuse, opposite, and adjacent. Next comes the words sine, cosine, and tangent along with a mnemonic to help remember the ratios. There is plenty of practice choosing which ratio you have and all practice pages include answers.

This is a 50 page Smartboard lesson that builds on my part 1 lesson. The lesson starts by explaining the words Sine, Cosine, and Tangent. Next comes definitions and an explanation of how to find the side measurements. Next the lesson teaches how to find an angle. There are plenty of practice pages for both types and they include answers.

For the triangles whose sides are Pythagorean Triplets, a set of drawings also are included without the angle measures. Check the group names for the names of the special triangles. This review was created using smart notebook software. This is a review that covers Pythagorean theorem, 30-60-90 triangles, 45-45-90 triangles, trigonometric ratios, and angles of elevation/depression. My students use student response boards to work out the problems and show me their answers. This review is a great way for them and myself to see how ready they are for an assessment. Elizabeth Welch
