Resistance to Reconstruction: Sharecropping, KKK, Jim Crow Laws
I found that students lacked a true understanding of the institutionalized racism and social/political/economic challenges African Americans faced in the 100 years between the end of slavery and the first breakthroughs of the Civil Rights Movement. To provide more context, I created this assignment explaining sharecropping, the KKK, Jim Crow Laws, Poll Taxes, Literacy Tests, and Grandfather Clauses. It is very informative and great for class discussion afterwards and linking to modern times.

Article II Executive Branch Constitution Scavenger Hunt - Presidents Job
Students "fill in the blanks" using the Constitution to determine what exactly is the job of the President. The questions do require students to make inferences as well as fill in the blank. In this short lesson, students will try to gerrymander a state given to them by drawing district lines among the population to favor a specific party.
