In this project, the students will use scale factor to enlarge a candy wrapper. The final project will include an enlarged colored candy wrapper along with follow-up questions about the project. They will also have to solve a series of problems involving scale factor. If they finish early, there is an extension to the project that involves using the scale factor with the nutritional information. *I would recommend to create your own centimeter grid paper.

Students will bring in a box (and cylinder) from home and use it to find surface area (using 2 different methods), volume and to create a net. Students will also review measurement and use appropriate units (squared and cubed). This project will enable the students to actually understand the surface area formula. (instead of just plugging numbers into a formula) They will not only use the formula, but also calculate the area of each of the individual 6 faces of a rectangular solid (and parts o

Mass, Volume, and Density Math Practice

Mass, Volume, and Density Math Practice We study mass, volume, and density in science class. My students can always use extra practice with the formulas. There are four total worksheets with answer keys in this product. One page each on mass, volume, and density. Each worksheet has 24 problems. The last page is a challenging page where students have to figure out which formula they need, then solve for it. You may want to differentiate with the last page by using it only with higher level studen

Finding area by decomposing shapes into triangles and rectangles.

This packet gives students the opportunity to practice finding area of quadrilaterals and other polygons by decomposing the shapes in triangles and rectangles. Students need to be able to find the area of rectangles and triangles in order to be successful on these problems. The first 10 problems challenge students to find the area of quadrilaterals and other polygons. The remaining 5 problems challenge students to find the fraction of shaded region inside of polygons. These problems are simi

Just like the regular rules of Bingo, a teacher or group leader calls out a figure and students with the corresponding figure are able to cross it off their list. This colourful version was adapted for the Measurement and Geometry strand of the Australian Curriculum. The teacher or group leader calls out figures in mL or L or percentages/fractions of a L and students mark their grids accordingly. Students love the colourful game boards and the resource is most effective when it is laminated. H

Finding Volume of Prisms (fractional edges) by Packing with Unit Cubes

This worksheet gives students the opportunity to practice finding volume of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths. (8 problems) Students also practice finding the number of unit cubes that can fit inside of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths. (6 problems). These problems are modeled after the problem on the PARCC practice test for 6th grade math.

This is a fully editable .DOC file that I have used to help my students set goals for their STAR test throughout the school year. As a bonus, students can practice their measurement & data skills. I have used this in a whole group setting, making an anchor chart with good test taking practices in order to help students brainstorm for the "two things I will do to reach my goal". I have also used this leading up to their STAR test and post STAR test during individual student conferencing.

Students have difficulty using protractors to measure angles. This activity is a great starting point for teaching students to use protractors because it takes away the lining up piece (where they struggle) and only requires them to correctly read the angle. Students will also practice drawing an angle using a protractor. This make a great introductory activity before having students actually use a protractor.

Comprehensive Grade 6 Math Review

This should serve as a review for all concepts covered in Grade 6 math (according to the Ontario curriculum). You could use the review as a comprehensive year end review. Or you could break it up into parts (a midpoint review and a year end review). It's separated by strands. For Grade 5 teachers, this could be used too, by making slight alterations. For Grade 7 teachers, you could use this as a beginning of the year pre-test.

They had a lot of fun designing their book covers and pages, adding in cooking tips and kitchen advice, and assembling the class book. They each received a copy to take home- and many of them brought
