I use this as a homework assignment, then a turn and talk exercise. To guarantee that students get many opportunities to read, analyze and discuss, I then create 4 corners and a center. Each one with a literary device. I ask students to gather based on what they know, then what they don't know. I limit the spots to 4 or 5 students and set a timer. As a wrap up assignment, students write a cohesive one page response incorporating the theme, the devices and the quotes.
