Odyssey and O Brother Where Art Thou Comparison Activity
This activity allows students to actively compare "The Odyssey" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?". Page one consists of a chart with partially complete similarities (some are filled in for the movie, some for the Epic poem). Once students have completed this chart, they are prompted to answer a written response question. In this written portion students must compare, contrast, and explore the effect on message. Lucy Calkins Personal Narrative Rough Draft Packet

I use this for my Writer's Workshop based on the Lucy Calkins series. They way she was presenting the lessons did not work for me but I have found great sucess by using these packets.
Assign one page per day. That way the student can focus on one topic at a time. I take the time to conference with each student after they have completed them and make corrections on the paper.
